At Nippur, we enjoy raising our levels of creativity and knowledge. Hackathons are a fun, interactive way to spend an afternoon doing some outside-the-box thinking as a team. By tackling an issue together – or in smaller teams – you can come up with surprising and highly innovative insights. That is why, on 18 July 2017, we formed three teams and organized a hackathon on applying Hadoop in our work. The question was: How do you build a historical data archive (HDA) and load it into Hadoop?
On 14 September, Nippur’s big data and data science knowledge team began to tackle machine learning. The aim of the hackathon was to discover which statistical models can best be applied to various business problems.
On 25 October, everyone at Nippur met at our biannual policy day. This time we wanted to look more deeply at and become inspired by two important topics: big data and data science. To visualise our ideas, we worked in small groups on producing Lego/Duplo models. We were able to properly express and share our ideas with the help of the models we built.
